Thrilling football is what we all got to witness at the recently concluded UEFA Champions League and Europa. The performance of most of the team was at the very best. The season has produced some sparkling moments, splendid dribbling goals by the likes of Serge Ganabry, Lionel Messi, the title winning bicycle kick goal by Romelu Lukaku. The spellbinding assist against FC Barcelona by Alphanso Davies, the fastest football player ever. The split seconds save by Ter Stegen against Dortmund. What was common and worth noting is the ability of the players to make fast decision.

We had the honor of hosting UEFA PRO coach Mario Rivera, on our 2nd episode of “A football Pro’s Journey”, a live webinar aired on Zoom and Facebook. The prolific coach and a master tactician Mario is known to have turned around the fortunes of East Bengal FC to finish 2nd in the I League 2019/20. He has worn many caps during his Pro football journey an accomplished Head Coach East Bengal FC, Head Coach U21 National Team NFABD and a Pro Player Scout. The very informative webinar had Coach Mario sharing his experiences as a young player, Pro Coach, Scout and some gem of advice for the budding and aspiring players.
The players at the highest levels are often in possession of the ball for an average of less than one second per contact, decision-making is crucial. Coach Mario went on to explain the finer aspects of decision making, its importance over technical skills like Shooting, Passing etc. Players have to play against opponents regularly to develop better decision making ability.
We completely agree with Coach Mario’s advice that if Indian players have to compete against their European counterparts, playing more matches in a season is essential.
