Flight for Women's Football

The men’s football is gaining momentum in India; at the same time women's football is yet to gain the kind of attention. India hosting the FIFA U17 Women's world cup in 2020 has got the spotlight on the girls and the Rush for the top flight has already begun.

India is a country of varied talents since ages past, and we are as passionate about physical wellbeing as much as we are of the spiritual wellbeing. Vyaayaam – (व्यायाम) as the Hindi connotation for Exercise, has been a part and parcel of every Indian child’s education, regardless of gender.  Play has been the popular mode for most exercises and we have games aplenty, some common to all areas, and some specific to each geographic location. These games have not only molded the body of the individual to bear and grow but also to develop the muscles needed to endure the harsh weather/ climatic conditions one is subject to, be it the mountains, valleys, dry lands, slush swamps etc.

We were fast to pick up the Sports like Cricket, Football and Hockey which were introduced by the British in India. With raw talent aplenty, India tasted success initially at the global level in Hockey as well as Football, but with the advent of scientific approach in the building infrastructure, athlete development and most importantly Coaching techniques using modern gears, the slip was imminent, especially for women’s participation in sports which had not really taken off largely due to the predominant culture. Over the years the prominence of sports and women’s participation has changed, but for many it is still elusive.

Rush Soccer has been strongly promoting Women’s football, producing many stars like Lindsey Horan who was part of the US National Women’s team winning the FIFA World Cup. Just like its US counterpart India Rush SC has been promoting Women’s participation in Sports. Establishing a proven pathway for girls in India to begin at grassroots level and rise all the way up to becoming Maharashtra Champions as well as becoming the 1st team from Maharashtra in 2017 to participate in the AIFF Women’s League final round.

Continuing the strong emphasis in women’s empowerment through sports, India Rush SC MDFA U17 team Captain Riya D’souza and Gaia Ferro won the runners up title for Mumbai in the recently concluded WIFA inter district sub junior girls championship and as we were getting ready to publish the article, we received yet another news of our very own Sakshi Sandeep Repe’s selection for DSO U14 Nationals to be played in Haryana.

If you feel it is an expensive club then you would be pleased to know that the club is all for getting the best out of the members and so if you hold the talent but not the pocket then the club will pitch in for the expenses. The club provides scholarships and subsided fees for girls. There is a No Ability or Age bar policy and so if it’s a club what you're looking for then come over and give your footwork the training it needs and wings to your dreams.
