THREE RUSH PLAYERS AWARDED OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND GETAFE INTERNATIONAL MADRID FOOTBALL ACADEMY

Miami, FL (September 13, 2019) -- In mid June, Rush Soccer helped organize an ID Camp in Miami, FL for Getafe International Madrid Football Academy (GIMFA). Fifty players, all affiliated with Rush clubs from Miami Rush and Puerto Rico Rush, attended the event as the Academy evaluated players to find the top ten performers. Following the evaluation and event, GIMFA contacted the top ten players and asked for academic transcripts. Upon receiving all the files, the top 3 players on the basis of soccer and academic performances were offered scholarships for the Academy in Madrid.

The top Rush player, Brian Rodriguez, was awarded a full scholarship, while the next two players, Lucas Torres from San Juan Rush in Puerto Rico and Aidan Leith from Miami Rush were offered half scholarships. Lucas is considering attending the school in the future as timing was difficult for him to enroll immediately this year. Aidan left on Sept 1 and will be at the Academy for a full year. Both Brian and Aiden started classes and training this week.

GIMFA program gives young players the possibility to train in a professional setting, opening doors in the football world. GIMFA is the official academy of the 1st Division Spanish Club Getafe C.F. and offers its students a high performance training program while finishing their high school diploma in an American School in Madrid.

Renatto Soriano, the Academy Director at Miami Rush had this to say about the first year of working with Getafe on this unique experience for Rush players:

“The collaboration and outreach of Getafe International Academy to help us organize an event and follow through on their word to offer scholarships to three players following the trials was exceptional. The partnership with Getafe is very important to the Miami Rush community, and we look forward to working with them during future ID Camps in the future. The partnership is helping to open doors for our players to grow in their soccer pathway as they become exposed to more elite levels in their playing careers.”

GIMFA’s Soccer Development Program offers the option of doing a full academic year (10 months) or just the semester (5 months). This option is perfect for those players who want to finish their High School Diploma in an American school in Madrid and develop their soccer skills in a professional setting.
